A ransomware is a kind of malware formulated to restrict access to personal file until ransom money is paid. One example of a ransomware is Npsk virus. It targets important files saved on the computer such as photos, images, archives, databases, and personal documents. It typically dissipates through spam and phishing emails, or visiting a certain website infected with a malware. The afflictions of Npsk can extremely be upsetting for its victims. Overall, Npsk can threaten anyone who stored valuable data on their computer.

Once Npsk activates on the computer, it will not encrypt all the files on the computer. By exploring throughout the computer, it will track files that are most likely belongs to user like personal files and important data. Using a sophisticated algorithm, Npsk will encrypt the particular files and blocks user’s access. Npsk ransomware will then rename the existing files by appending their an .npsk file extension. Next, the virus will leave a ransom note under the text file “_readme.txt”. It contains the message of Npsk hackers explaining what happened to the files, and gives instructions on how to recover it.

The restoration of infected files can be a difficult process, because only the Npsk developers can provide the decryption key in order to regain access to the data. They will demand a ransom fee converted into Bitcoin, since most of ransomware operators prefers crypto-currency, in exchange of a decryption tool and private key. Some victims sends their payments to the hackers, however, there is no guarantee that they will be able to recover all the encrypted .npsk files.
