How does it infect the computer?

Worm:VBS/Jenxcus!lnk enters the computer as a form of Visual Basic Scripts and uses the Autorun function on the infected computer so that it executes on its own when the drive is accessed. Then, it will spread the executable file together with the autorun.inf file into drives present on the infected PC. Other threats may also drop Worm:VBS/Jenxcus!lnk into the computer without the user’s knowledge by concealing itself from other programs.

Altered freeware, serial-generating programs, and crack software are also known sources used by attackers to deploy Worm:VBS/Jenxcus!lnk.

How does this malware operate?

When Worm:VBS/Jenxcus!lnk infects a computer, it typically acts swiftly to spread throughout the system and potentially across networks. Upon infiltration, Worm:VBS/Jenxcus!lnk often seeks to exploit vulnerabilities in the operating system or other software to gain control and establish itself within the infected Windows device. Once activated, the worm may start replicating itself, creating copies that can spread to other connected devices or systems via various means such as email, instant messaging, or network shares.

Additionally, Worm:VBS/Jenxcus!lnk often exhibits malicious behaviors aimed at compromising system integrity or stealing sensitive information. It may attempt to disable security features, install backdoors for remote access, or execute destructive payloads that can damage files, corrupt data, or even render the system inoperable. Furthermore, some variants of Worm:VBS/Jenxcus!lnk are designed to carry out specific tasks, such as launching distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks or mining cryptocurrency, leveraging the infected devices’ resources for nefarious purposes.

Symptoms

Common symptoms of Worm:VBS/Jenxcus!lnk infections often include a sudden decrease in system performance, with the device becoming noticeably slower in executing tasks or accessing files. Computer users may also experience unusual network activity, such as excessive bandwidth usage or unexpected connections to remote servers, indicating the worm’s attempts to spread or communicate with its command-and-control infrastructure. Additionally, frequent crashes, freezes, or unexpected system restarts may occur as a result of the worm’s malicious activities disrupting normal system operations. Furthermore, users may observe the proliferation of unfamiliar files, folders, or processes in the system as Worm:VBS/Jenxcus!lnk replicates itself or installs additional malware components to further its objectives.

Some variants of Worm:VBS/Jenxcus!lnk may exhibit specific behavioral patterns, such as the sending of unsolicited emails or messages from the infected device, potentially spreading themselves to other users’ systems. Another common symptom is the alteration of system settings or configurations by Worm:VBS/Jenxcus!lnk, which may appear as changes to firewall rules, security policies, or user permissions, compromising the device’s security posture. Computer users might notice the presence of unexpected or unauthorized software installations, as worms may download and execute payloads without user consent, leading to further system compromise or exploitation.

Hence, keep in mind that having security software does not guarantee full protection. The majority of the prevention still lies in being cautious of users, and therefore, we are providing the following information as guidelines to protect the computer from virus infection.

Avoid Malicious Websites

There are enormous numbers of websites that were made for the primary purpose of spreading Worm:VBS/Jenxcus!lnk. Normally, these sites are involved in integrating malicious pop-up and browser hijacker, that will eventually cause further virus infections. Avoid such websites.

Ignore and Delete Phishing Emails

Be Careful When Downloading Files

Cracked software, serial key generators, and several freeware are seen as another method that spreads the Worm:VBS/Jenxcus!lnk virus. Avoid acquiring these types of applications, and if there is a need to download freeware or shareware, be sure to obtain it from the official website or trusted providers.
