If ZenFocusZone starts interfering with the homepage and search, it only denotes that the computer is infected with a potentially unwanted program (PUP). All the modifications made to the browser are staged by a relevant browser extension that would have penetrated during the installation of freeware.
Sources of ZenFocusZone
In recent years, free software has become more dangerous because adware makers are taking advantage of it to deploy malicious applications. The technique is called “software bundling,” which is quite an old method to promote third-party software using a host file or primary program. Currently, it is hard to spot malicious freeware that carries adware that may install ZenFocusZone or similar adware. Hence, we are sure that most of them originate from suspicious online sources that are in disguise as free games, utilities, media players, and so on.
The Underground ad network is also another channel that distributes ZenFocusZone. The persuading ad will appear on the browser, claiming that a program is outdated and that immediate download and execution of the update are critical. The malicious ad may also state that ignoring the update could cause serious troubles and issues on the computer. With this persuasion, many web users are tricked into proceeding without realizing that there is an imminent adware invasion.
Unwanted installation of ZenFocusZone
Right after the installation of dubious freeware or a fake software update, the adware immediately interacts with the targeted browser program. It overrides the settings, making ZenFocusZone the new default on the homepage, new tab, and search provider. On top of that, infected browser applications may also suffer from excessive displays of advertisements and redirects.
To restore the internet browser program to its pristine and normal operation, simply remove ZenFocusZone. This task requires the complete removal of the adware and all malicious objects from the computer. Scanning with anti-virus and anti-malware tools can handle this job without any difficulty.
