A ransomware is a virus that infects the computer and causes serious issues to PC user’s important files. It aims to locate valuable data, encrypts them using a complex algorithm, and locks it to become inaccessible. To regain access to the files, the attacker will demand a ransom fee in exchange for a decryption tool and private key. One example of this hazardous threat is called Remk Ransomware.

About Remk Ransomware

Remk is a kind of crypto-virus, which encrypts majority of victim’s files in order for handlers to ask for a ransom fee. When certain files suddenly become inaccessible, we may conclude that something is not right and probably a ransomware is the reason behind it. Remk will rename the targeted files by appending .remk extension. The victims will then receive instructions within a note named “_readme.txt” stating how to recover the encrypted files. The ransom fee covers the purchase of a decryption tool and private key. The costs usually demanded by data hackers ranges from $490 to $980 depending on how soon victims can contact them. Cyber criminals typically use crypto-currency, so the payment will be in Bitcoin digital currency.

How Remk ransomware works

Data-locker software or ransomware can access computers in so many ways. But the most efficient way to deliver their virus code is through spam email attachments. Remk operators will send emails to their targets pretending to be from prominent organization in order to gain trust. However, the email contains a ransomware-infected file attachment. Once opened, it results to invade the computer system, most especially when a ransomware have built-in tool for tricking PC user into allowing administrative access. After that, it will start to spy throughout the computer and encrypts the most significant files such as photos, personal documents, and so on.
