Remove Jaff Ransomware (Recover .jaff Files)

By | Posted on May 12, 2017 |

Jaff Ransomware is a critical malware that encrypts certain files on targeted computer. Once this virus is run on the system, it immediately infects files and appends the extension with .Jaff. Ransomware hunters claim that this malware is very much identical to infamous Locky Ransomware in so many ways. However, Jaff may have a slightly different code and was written in C and uses a custom packer to conceals its presence. In addition, Jaff demands huge sum of money before one can regain access to their files. A whooping 2 Bitcoins or around 3,800 US Dollars is demanded from its victims.

To inform user about the attack, Jaff will place HTML file, Text file, and Image file that serves as a notice. ReadMe.htm, ReadMe.txt, and ReadMe.bmp contains instructions, contact email address, and payment amount. Here are some excerpts:

Files are encrypted!
To decrypt files you need to obtain private key.
The only copy of the private key, which will allow you to decrypt your files is located on a secret server in the internet…

As you can see, this attack was made solely to generate money by making your precious files unusable. You must pay the attacker before you can restore the files to its original form. With recent similar attacks, it is evident that cyber criminals are demanding huge amount of money. In the case of Jaff, ransom amount is unspecified. Attackers demand will be based on how soon the victim will contact them.
